Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much is admission?

Admission to the museum is free! We have a donation box located in the front of the Fossil Gallery, if you feel inclined to show your support.

  • What is "phosphate"?

Phosphate is a rock that can be turned into phosphorous. Phosphorus is an element that is needed for plants to grow. Phosphorous is used in many products - like toothpaste - and is an essential ingredient in all fertilizers that help our food grow.

  • How do I dig on the dig pile?

Most visitors use their hands to dig. However, you are more than welcome to bring beach shovels, sifters, or other things of that nature.

  • Where can I put my finds from the dig pile?

Visitors can request a plastic sandwich bag from our museum staff (at the Fossil Gallery) to hold their new findings.

  • What can we find in the dig pile?

In our dig pile, visitors typically find shark teeth, small bones, and small fossils buried in the pile.

  • Do you have a gift shop?

Our museum offers a small counter shop located inside our Fossil Gallery. Please note - the gift counter can only accept cash right now.

  • Are you affiliated with the city?

Yes! Our museum, the Mulberry Cultural Center, and the GEM Theater are all supported and operated by the City of Mulberry.

  • Do you offer tours/field trips?

Yes, we do! To schedule a tour or a field trip, please call the museum at (863) 425-2823 to get started.

  • Is there anything else to know?

There are 2 things that we ask from our visitors:

    1. Please do not to wash your finds from the dig pile in our bathroom sink. The dirt from the pile can clog the drain, and that’s not fun for anyone.

    2. We ask that everyone, including kids, keep their shoes and clothes on while at the museum - for their own safety and ours. Thank you!
